Work-Life Balance
When you’re committed to your work, it can be easy to let other aspects of your life fall by the wayside. However, making the effort to maintain a healthy work-life balance can actually help you succeed in your career – while also helping you stay mentally and physically healthy. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with your schedule, now is the perfect time to reassess and make changes to your personal and professional life. Here are four of my top tips for improving your work-life balance.
Cut Back On Your Screen Time
Our smartphones and computers make it easier than ever to stay connected to work 24/7. And while this can be a good thing in some cases, it can also make it difficult to take time for yourself. Designate specific times each day to spend away from your phone, computer, and other electronics. This could be during your morning workout or at night when you’re spending time with family and friends. You’ll likely find that unplugging makes it easier to connect to the people around you and enjoy what you’re doing in your free time.
Make A Schedule For Yourself
Effective time management can help you get more done both in and outside of work. This is particularly important if you work for yourself or have a flexible schedule. Determine what time of day you tend to be most productive, and schedule your most challenging work tasks during that time. Your schedule shouldn’t just be for work – you’ll also want to make sure to pencil in time for friends, family, hobbies, and relaxing. The more detailed the schedule, the easier it will be to stick to. Use a physical planner or a calendar app on your phone to hold yourself accountable.
Set Boundaries With Those Around You
Keeping up with both a challenging job and a social life can make it feel like everyone is demanding something from you. In order to stay healthy and productive, you’ll need to set boundaries. Talk to both your boss and your coworkers about when you are and aren’t available for work-related communication. If they try to contact you when you aren’t available, wait until working hours to respond. The same goes for your family and friends – it’s important that they give you the space you need to be productive when you are working, especially if you work from home.
Set Goals For Yourself
Setting goals is a great way to develop a better understanding of your personal priorities. Sit down and write a list of what you want to accomplish in the short term as well as in the long term. This should include personal goals as well as professional goals. When you plan your schedule, make sure you’re using your time to work towards your goals and that you’re not getting sidetracked.
If you don’t prioritize work-life balance, it can eventually lead to burnout. Making changes to prioritize your work-life balance is one of the best ways to stay healthy and happy.
